“We know that where there is social capital, there is civic engagement. Where there is civic engagement, neighbors know each other. When we know our neighbors, we build trust and where there is trust, there can be safety.”

Karen Dowcett, Founder/President LAI

The Living Arts Institute is dedicated to re-generating community intergenerationally through the arts and education. Through our public events and programs, we seek to engage the community across the age and social spectrum and cultivate our ability to dialogue about issues of social relevance for us as individuals and as a community. We all agree about the importance of air and water quality. We believe that community quality is as vitally important and see that the art builds the community as the community builds the art.

Kitty Dukakis, former Governor Michael Dukakis, LAI founder, Karen Dowcett, Keynote speaker Dr. Gene Cohen and LAI Board Member, Bob Ferguson in conversation before the event.
