School Residencies K-8

“Tell me, and I forget,
Teach me, and I may remember,
Involve me, and I learn.”

Benjamin Franklin

“Our project with big & small have reached more kids in deeper way than any other collaboration we have made.”

Paul Niles
Associate Director
Cape Cod Lighthouse charter School

As part of the journey leading to one of its major productions, The Living Arts Institute through its production arm, Big & small Mask Troupe works in schools and after-school programs integrating the thematic focus of the show (the environment, aging, or interdependence as examples) into course curricula or activities.  Students learn art and theatre skills, contribute their work in service to their community and the show and perform along with other community members of all ages from across the Cape and sometimes beyond.

Residency length - one week, three weeks or a full school year

TRAVELING TEACHING TALES

Big & small Mask Troupe brings Theatre Arts units and plays into schools. Students learn directing and performing skills and create masks or puppet props that they perform with along with troupe members. The plays fit into a class period.

Cirque de Sea - Teaches Bay ecology and self acceptance through an Oyster

As the Sowing, the Reaping - Teaches the cranberry harvest and the ethic of working together, and the power of one.
